Cathedral Window – Transparent Leaf Succulent Plant [Haworthia cymbiformis]
Cathedral Window is a compact and visually striking succulent known for its soft, fleshy, translucent leaves that form a tight rosette. The leaf tips appear almost glass-like, allowing light to pass through—this unique adaptation helps the plant survive in its native habitat of South Africa, where it often grows partially buried in sand.
This plant thrives in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate low light conditions, making it ideal for indoor environments. Direct harsh sunlight should be avoided as it can scorch the delicate leaves. Its compact size, usually staying under 6 inches, makes it perfect for desks, windowsills, and terrariums.
Watering should be minimal. Like most succulents, it prefers a “soak and dry” method—water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Overwatering is the most common issue and can quickly lead to root rot.
It requires a well-draining soil mix, preferably a cactus or succulent blend. Good airflow and drainage are essential for healthy growth. It is also slow-growing and low-maintenance, making it ideal for beginners.
